Dead Horses is an intimate, folk-inspired conversation between two close friends.
Wednesday, November 2, 2022, 8:00 pm Get Tickets

Since the band’s early days, Dead Horses has been something of a fluid project centered around Sarah and Dan but has also welcomed other like minded musicians for recording and touring. The band’s seemingly dark name is a loving tribute to a former friend of the band who passed away due to struggles with opioid abuse. To this end, Vos says, “Our music is about hope and joy, all while sharing an important message that you’re never alone in your battles.” The union of Sarah’s emotive songwriting and Dan’s intrepid bass playing transcends the singer-songwriter-with-backup-musicians paradigm. Dan’s adventurous musicality equally shines alongside Sarah’s songwriting sensibility.

Thursday, March 19, 2020, 7:00 pm

Told in the cinematic tradition of classic westerns, COWBOYS – A Documentary Portrait is a feature-length film that gives viewers the opportunity to ride alongside modern working cowboys on some of America’s largest and most remote cattle ranches.

The movie documents the lives of the men and women working on these “big outfit” ranches – some of which are over one million acres – and still require full crews of horseback mounted workers to tend large herds of cattle.

Narrated through first-hand accounts from the cowboys themselves, the story is steeped in authenticity and explores the rewards and hardships of a celebrated but misunderstood way of life, including the challenges that lie ahead for the cowboys critical to providing the world’s supply of beef.

“COWBOYS” was filmed on eight of the nation’s largest cattle ranches across ten states in the American West. It features music written and performed by Mineral Point’s own Daniel Libby and Meghan Dudle.

Charlie Parr is the eponymous new album by the Minnesota-based folk blues artist the same name. Charlie Parr will be performing at the Mineral Point Opera House at 7:30 pm on Feb 1, 2020.

The album, released by Red House Records, is a collection of new songs and new studio versions of classics/audience favorites from throughout Charlie’s career. Recorded at the legendary Pachyderm Studio in Canon Falls, MN, Charlie Parr features Charlie’s trademark resonator guitar and 12-string with co-producer Liz Draper on bass, longtime collaborator Mikkel Beckmen on percussion, Jeff Mitchell on electric guitar, accordion, organ, backing vocals, and Dave Hundrieser on harmonica. The album is an honest and raw recording of Charlie reflecting on himself and his career up to this point. It’s a musical reckoning that came after a freak accident less than a year ago that forced him to relearn how to play guitar, causing him to take stock of the songs he’s written over his lifetime. Charlie Parr is a stunning folk record that will surely stand the test of time, just like the man himself.

Thursday Night Movies; Oscar Nominated!
Thursday, January 16, 2020, 7:00 pm

Join us this week for a special presentation of what is already a game-changer in the indie film world, as the Oscar-nominated Honeyland will screen Thursday, Oct 16, at 7 p.m.

Honeyland is the first non-fiction feature to land nominations for both Best Documentary and Best International Feature Film (formerly Best Foreign Language Film) in the same year. Prior to landing its historic two nominations, Honeyland was called the documentary masterpiece of Oscar season by IndieWire.

Nestled in an isolated mountain region deep within the Balkans, Hatidze Muratova lives with her ailing mother in a village without roads, electricity or running water. She’s the last in a long line of Macedonian wild beekeepers, eking out a living farming honey in small batches to be sold in the closest city — a mere four hours’ walk away. Hatidze’s peaceful existence is thrown into upheaval by the arrival of an itinerant family, with their roaring engines, seven rambunctious children and herd of cattle. Hatidze optimistically meets the promise of change with an open heart, offering up her affections, her brandy and her tried-and-true beekeeping advice.

It doesn’t take long however, before Hussein, the itinerant family’s patriarch, senses opportunity and develops an interest in selling his own honey. Hussein has seven young mouths to feed and nowhere to graze his cattle, and he soon casts Hatidze’s advice aside in his hunt for profit. This causes a breach in the natural order that provokes a conflict with Hatidze that exposes the fundamental tension between nature and humanity, harmony and discord, exploitation and sustainability. Even as the family provides a much-needed respite from Hatidze’s isolation and loneliness, her very means of survival are threatened.

Honeyland won World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at Sundance, and it was shortlisted for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

MPHS MUSICAL THEATRE STUDENTS TO STORM MUSICAL BARRICADE WITH LES MISÉRABLES SCHOOL EDITION ON DECEMBER 6th, 7th, and 8th!
Come to Mineral Point Opera House to see an adaptation performed entirely by students of the legendary musical that has thrilled over 47 million people worldwide!

Students from Mineral Point High School are studying the history of France in a unique way with a production of Les Misérables School Edition, an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon which is performed by students only.

The future of the theatre is all about developing and nurturing a passion for musicals and plays among the young.  This is where new audiences will come from, and I believe Les Misérables, which tells a story of so many passionate and committed young people, is proving to be a thrilling theatrical learning experience for teenagers, as well as a wonderful communal experience for their teachers. says theatrical producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh.Les Misérables is one of the most popular musicals in the world and features one of the most memorable scores of all time. Through their production, these students are playing their own part in an epic piece of musical theatre history while offering their own take on themes like revolution, free speech, conviction and redemption. We hope youll join us in giving them a standing ovation! says Drew Cohen, president of Music Theatre International.

Tickets can be purchased at Berget Jewelers (257 High Street), online at BrownPaperTickets.com, the high school main office, and at Mineral Point Opera House.

Les Misérables School Edition is a version of the classic musical by Alain Boubil and Claude-Michel Schöneberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo.  The music is by Claude-Michel Schöneberg, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer.  The show features original French text by Alain Boubil and Jean-Marc Natel, with additional material by James Fenton.  It is adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, with original orchestrations by John Cameron, new orchestrations by Christopher Janke, Stephen Metcalfe and Stephen Brooker.  Les Misérables was originally produced by Cameron Mackintosh.  The School Edition is specially adapted and licensed by Music Theatre International and Cameron Mackintosh (Overseas) Ltd.

Winner of over 100 international awards, and seen by 8.5 million people in New York alone during its run from March, 1987, through May, 2003, Les Misérables is the worlds longest running musical and the third longest running musical in Broadway history.  Worldwide, the musical has been seen by over 70 million people, with a total box office gross of over $1.8 billion.

The show once again made history by becoming the first musical ever to become available for school productions while still playing on Broadway, in the West End and in productions around the world.  MTI released the authorized school version of the award-winning musical in 2003, which, according to Dramatics Magazine, was the number one produced musical in high schools that year.

International theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh supervised the creation of a school edition of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönbergs epic musical in order to nurture a passion for the theater among youth.  The show was made available to schools, childrens theatres, childrens camps and other organizations with programs for young performers (all performers must be under 19 years of age) nationwide in 2002, to honor the 200th anniversary of Victor Hugos birth.  Les Misérables School Edition has a running time of just over two and a half hours (including intermission).

This epic story of Les Misérables recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes and honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father  violating his parole in the process. The Cactus Blossoms will be performing at the Mineral Point Opera House on Saturday, October 26th at 7:30pm. Doors for this show will open at 6:30pm. All tickets are general admission.

Minneapolis-based brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey offer a deceptively unadorned musical approach that offers creative turns of phrase, gorgeous harmonies, and an ageless sound (NPR All Things Considered), not to mention spine tingles aplenty. Their 2016 debut “Youre Dreaming,” a stunning and transporting collection of original songs, earned high praise from Rolling Stone, tour stints with Kacey Musgraves and Lucius, and a perfectly cast performance on the third season of David Lynchs Twin Peaks. Their rise continues with new album “Easy Way,” to be released on their own label Walkie Talkie Records.

Robbie Fulks: A Tribute to Bob Dylan

Robbie Fulks: A Tribute to Bob Dylan

Saturday, October 19, 2019, 7:30 pm Get Tickets
Robbie Fulks  is coming to the Mineral Point Opera House with a large group of players and a new record. An unusual and personal double-album, five years in the making, its title is 16, and all its music is drawn from the Bob Dylan album, Street-Legal.
The record is based on a very simple idea: if you returned after an absence of decades to something that enchanted and mystified you as a teenager, what would you make of it? The idea isn’t specific to musicians. A fundamental human drive is to remold one’s environment; another universal instinct is to hold early influences and loves above all others. The sum of these two is the creative reshaping of old memories. This in a nutshell is the impetus of 16. It’s in no way a tribute, but rather a revisit to a private long ago with artistic tools and values gathered over a lifetime.
Robbie’s basic architectural approach was an old familiar one, one which starts by asking: given this blueprint (i.e., the compositions) and specific singer (Robbie), how to cast, arrange, track, and mix toward an optimally clear and powerful result? This open-ended question led to a path that wandered from hard rock to quiet solo guitar, from trance to noisy dissonance, 1970s soul groove to chamber-pop formalism. As a whole, it sounds a little like many records, as well as one particular 1978 record. But mostly, it sounds like no other record — nor could it, built as it is from one person’s experience and neurology. Though most of the musical settings are thoroughly reimagined, and few of the words changed, the intense, allegorically rich mind scapes and emotionality of Street-Legal are honored and intact, as is the format: 16 is LP only.
The record’s expansive personnel and lush variety of instrumentation make a string of dates unaffordable-to-impossible, but Robbie has pulled together eight artists from widespread genres (almost all of them Chicagoans) in order to present a solid sample of the new release for just three midwest dates, of which the MPOH is one. Duke Levine is known to guitar aficionados around the world for his fluid style, compositional grace, and 1970s-rooted affinity for blues, rock, and country. Eric Schneider, the distinguished clarinetist and saxophonist, began his career as a sideman for Count Basie and Earl Hines. The gospel/R&B vocal trio of Yvonne Gage, Joan Collaso, and Faith Howard are the group’s boldest element — attentive fans of Aretha Franklin and the TV show “Empire” will recognize them, but they were new to Robbie when he met them in 2016 and just about knocked him sideways with their skill.
Although the evening’s 2-hour set will include about half of 16, a show called 8 would probably be less than satisfying. The audience will also hear some songs from Robbie’s recently released 53-song album Revenge of the Doberman, his collaboration with Linda Gail Lewis Wild! Wild! Wild!, and an assortment of others from across his 30-year discography. The size and flexibility of this nonet (which includes Robbie’s longtime drummer and close friend Gerald Dowd) allow it to go almost anywhere. We hope you’ll come along for the ride.
