SUMMARY:The Mascot Theory
DESCRIPTION:There’s something special about a homecoming. \nErik Kjelland — vocalist\, guitarist\, and the reflective heart behind The Mascot Theory — grew up in Mineral Point\, and when the band returns to the Mineral Point Opera House\, it’s more than just another show. It’s a Wisconsin Americana-Rock act coming back to the place where it all began. Give The Mascot Theory a warm welcome back on Saturday\, September 12\, at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:00. Friends of the MPOH can purchase tickets on July 1 at 8:00 am; the general public can purchase tickets on July 15 at 8:00 am.  \nThe Mascot Theory has built a devoted following on the strength of emotionally honest songwriting\, soaring harmonies\, and a sound that moves fluidly between introspective folk-rock and full-throttle heartland anthems. Kjelland is joined by Cory Swadley (lead guitar)\, Nick Fry (bass)\, and Paul Metz (drums) — a band whose chemistry fuels live performances that are intimate\, explosive\, and always evolving. \nTheir most recent album\, Cosmic Hit And Run\, is among the most powerful work of their career. Written while Kjelland was grieving the loss of his father and navigating a diagnosis of a rare and potentially fatal brain condition that required invasive surgery — uncertain what would remain on the other side — the album is a deeply cinematic reckoning with survival\, perspective\, and the fragile beauty of still being here. It earned the band the 2026 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Award for Album of the Year. \nTheir previous album\, Every Sign Of Life (2024)\, was recorded with legendary producer Terry Manning at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo\, TX — a testament to the ambition and craft that have come to define The Mascot Theory’s studio work. \nThe accolades reflect a band that has genuinely earned its place among Wisconsin’s finest. Along with their WAMI Album of the Year win\, the band has taken home WAMI Awards for Album Package of the Year and Best Male Vocalist (Kjelland)\, plus dozens of MAMA (Madison Area Music Association) awards. They’ve graced the stages of Summerfest\, Freakfest\, and Mile of Music\, and have shared bills with artists including the BoDeans\, America\, Don McLean\, The Jayhawks\, Old 97’s\, Vance Joy\, Guster\, Kaleo\, Frank Turner\, and many more. \n\n

This happened after Jimmy personally attended one of Pete’s live shows in NYC and immediately invited him on the show. Pete’s joyful humor comes from his Midwestern roots. Raised in Janesville\, WI by divorced parents and a 19-inch television\, he was destined to pursue a career in entertainment. In 2005\, Pete flew to New York to make his television debut on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend\, and the taping went so well that he decided to move to NYC. Soon after moving to NYC\, he was selected to perform at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal\, where he was voted a standout performer. In 2008 Pete made his network television debut performing on NBC’s Last Comic Standing finishing as a semi-finalist. That same year\, he made his television acting debut on the CBS Soap Opera As The World Turns. At the end of 2008\, he shot his own Comedy Central Half Hour Special\, which earned him a cult following at comedy clubs\, and the opportunity to perform over the next ten years at 500 colleges across the country.  \nIn 2010 Pete began producing and editing his own shows for the Internet which led to getting his own web show on MSN.com called New York Minute:30. His web shows attracted the attention of television talent scouts and in 2012 he was hired to be a writer and cast member on FUSE TV’s Video on Trial and the NFL Network’s Top 10’s. In 2013\, Pete was hired as a cast member on VH1’s Best Week Ever\, where he was a writer and cast member for three seasons. That same year\, he made his late night television debut on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman.  \nCurrently\, Pete is a cast member of TruTV’s Greatest Ever and he hosts his own segment on Nickelodeon’s Nick Toons\, in co-ordination with the NFL\, called NFL Rush. He’s also a regular on TruTV’s Comedy Knockout and Comedy Central’s Roast Battle. And he starred in a documentary titled I Need You to Kill that is now available on iTunes and Amazon. \nIf you haven’t heard of Pete Lee yet\, prepare to tell other people. \n\n

SUMMARY:Rucksack Revolution with Chicago Farmer
DESCRIPTION:Expect a night of raw\, road-worn American music as the acclaimed Chicago Farmer takes the stage first\, followed by headliner Rucksack Revolution; a collaboration between two of Wisconsin’s most celebrated singer-songwriters: Adam Greuel of the high-energy string band Horseshoes & Hand Grenades\, and Sarah Vos of the folk-inspired Dead Horses. We’re welcoming them back to the Opera House stage on Friday\, December 4th\, at 7:00 pm. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Advance tickets are $23 for balcony seats\, $28 for lower level seats\, and $33 for the first two rows and box seats (plus taxes and fees). Ticket prices increase by $5 on the day of the show. Friends of the MPOH can purchase tickets on July 1 at 8:00 am; the general public can purchase tickets on July 15 at 8:00 am. \nRucksack Revolution is the melding of two of Wisconsin’s most recognized modern singer-songwriters. Adam Greuel\, of the high-energy string band Horseshoes & Hand Grenades\, and Sarah Vos\, of the folk-inspired Dead Horses\, draw from broad musical influences ranging from Leonard Cohen to Fleetwood Mac to Gillian Welch & David Rawlings\, to bring you a show that will be mostly focused on original material. The duo’s chemistry as musical partners and dear friends is apparent as their music features tight harmonies\, introspective lyricism\, and soaring melodies. \n\n\n \nThe son of a small town farming community\, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Profoundly inspired by fellow midwesterner John Prine\, he’s a working-class folk musician to his core. His small town roots\, tilled with city streets mentality\, are turning heads North and South of I-80. He writes music for “the kind of people that come to my shows. Whether in Chicago or Delavan\, everyone has a story\, and everyone puts in a long day and works hard the same way.” The name Chicago Farmer was originally for a band\, but the utilitarian life of driving alone from bar to bar\, city to city – to make a direct connection to his audience and listener\, took a deeper hold. \n

SUMMARY:A Christmas Story
DESCRIPTION:This holiday classic will be shown on Sunday\, December 6 at 2:00 PM. Seating is general admission. Tickets will be on sale SOON! \nA Christmas Story follows nine-year-old Ralphie Parker as he schemes and dreams his way through the holiday season in 1940s Indiana\, desperate to find a Red Ryder Carbine Action BB gun under the tree on Christmas morning. Narrated by an older Ralphie looking back with warmth and humor\, the film weaves together a series of childhood vignettes — a tongue frozen to a flagpole\, a run-in with neighborhood bullies\, and a department store Santa who sends kids down a slide. Meanwhile\, his Old Man wins a “major award” in the form of a fishnet-stocking leg lamp\, his mother quietly holds the family together\, and Christmas morning finally arrives with a few surprises. Equal parts funny and sentimental\, it has become one of the most beloved holiday films of all time. \n1983\, Rated PG

SUMMARY:Isthmus Brass Holiday Show
DESCRIPTION:The Isthmus Brass ensemble is bringing the warmth and grandeur of the holiday season to the Opera House stage on Sunday\, December 13th\, at 2:00 pm. Doors open at 1:00 pm. Advance tickets are $25 for the balcony\, $35 for the lower level\, and $45 for the first two rows and boxes (plus taxes and fees). Ticket prices increase by $5 on the day of the show. Friends of the MPOH can purchase tickets on July 1 at 8:00 am; the general public can purchase tickets on July 15 at 8:00 am. \nEstablished in 2009\, the ensemble was formed when some of the busiest brass players in Madison & Milwaukee looked for ways to collaborate and perform together. They initially decided on a course of performing charitable Christmas Concerts for the unhoused via Porchlight\, Inc. of Dane County where they have raised over $150\,000 in annual benefit concerts. Soon after inception\, they then stepped on to the national stage. The group has now become active year-round\, presenting the highest level virtuosic brass playing in concerts of varying styles with custom arrangements that showcase their individual talents. They have released two holiday recordings\, “Isthmus Brass Christmas” and “We Need a Little Christmas” on Summit Records. \nThe large group has a smaller brass quintet that plays smaller venues and often handles the outreach/teaching commitments for the group. Both groups offer diverse programming including popular holiday concerts\, patriotic concerts (featuring Sousa Marches and other American fare)\, light classical (well known classical work with an Isthmus Brass flare) and jazz/popular programs featuring individual members improvisational prowess on standard jazz tunes. \n

SUMMARY:Davina and The Vagabonds
DESCRIPTION:“Davina and The Vagabonds combat heartache with sugar and sass.” DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE \nLed by powerhouse vocalist and pianist Davina Sowers\, Davina & The Vagabonds is bringing their high-energy vintage music to the Opera House stage on Friday\, January 29th\, at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30. Advance tickets are $28 for the balcony and lower level and $33 for the first two rows and boxes (plus taxes and fees). Prices will increase by $5 on the day of the show. Friends of the MPOH can purchase tickets on July 1 at 8:00 am; the general public can purchase tickets on July 15 at 8:00 am. \nFounded in Minneapolis\, the group quickly rose from local favorite to global touring act\, captivating audiences across the U.S.\, Europe\, and beyond. Their sound draws from early New Orleans jazz\, swing\, blues\, and soul\, infused with contemporary storytelling and dynamic arrangements. At the heart of it all is Davina’s commanding voice and expressive piano style\, which anchor every performance with emotion\, grit\, and grace. \nWhether performing originals or reimagining timeless favorites\, Davina & The Vagabonds offer a show that is soulful\, sophisticated\, and unforgettable—an experience that leaves audiences uplifted\, inspired\, and wanting more. \nMuch like the music\, the story spurns era\, expectation\, and classification. The often unbelievable\, sometimes harrowing\, and wholly inspiring journey of Davina Sowers gave birth to her eponymous band Davina and The Vagabonds in 2004. As the tale goes\, she grew up in the economically depressed Allegheny town of Altoona\, PA\, which she now describes as “awesome in the industrial era\, but horrible for high school.” She was adopted by her much older stepfather when he was in his 80s; he passed away when she was just 13. Through him and his Edison phonograph\, she first heard The Ink Spots\, Sidney Bechet\, Louis Armstrong and Louis Prima\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, and many others. “Great man. He was my angel and still is\,” she says. \nTo this day\, Davina still refers to music as “my first and eternal love.” Despite early dalliances with classical piano and guitar\, she developed a heavy drug habit in high school\, which morphed into heroin dependency\, left her homeless\, sent her in and out of jail\, and brought on all manner of trouble. Kicking dope on the streets\, she “got clean\, started the band\, and worked [her] ass off every day since.” \nDavina and the Vagabonds shine every time they play. To date\, they’ve performed in forty-five states\, twelve European countries\, and two Canadian provinces. Not to mention\, they’ve earned feverish acclaim from the Chicago Tribune\, NPR\, and more in addition to performing on BBC’s international favorite late-night program Later… With Jools Holland and appearing on PBS’s Bluegrass Underground. \n
