A screening of Verdi's La Traviata with games and awards for a fun, interactive experience
An Evening at the Opera will take place on August 30th, 2023 at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $15, plus Eventbrite fees.
An Evening at the Opera House is a night full of fun! We are showing Handa Opera On Sydney Harbour: La Traviata (2018). Whether you are a lifelong Opera fan or you have never watched an opera before, we welcome you to come to this event. The title of the event is pretty self-explanatory, but there is more than just watching the opera. There will be games to play and awards to win throughout the night.
About La Traviata: Giuseppe Verdi’s popular La Traviata (‘The Fallen Woman’) with libretto by Francesco Maria Piave is based on the play La Dame aux camélias (‘The Lady with the Camellias’) itself adapted from a novel by Alexandre Dumas, fils. The main role portrays a young courtesan residing in Paris, named Violetta, who is briefly having the time of her life in society, yet facing her certain demise or even death from a mixture of tuberculosis and abandonment.
Attire: Dressing up is not required, but it is appreciated. There will be attire awards and prizes given out to those with the best outfits. Feel free to come casual or formal!
“I wanted to create an event that promotes classical music because it’s not something I see often in this area. But I want it to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. That’s why I’ve created games and awards that will be done throughout the night. So dress up (if you’d like), bring a friend, have some champagne, and enjoy the night!”
