Wicked reimagines the classic story of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the witches of Oz. It centers on Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a misunderstood and green-skinned young woman with magical powers, and her unlikely friendship with Glinda (Ariana Grande), a popular and bubbly student at Shiz University. As they grow older, Elphaba’s sense of justice and defiance against the Wizard of Oz’s corrupt regime sets her on a path toward becoming the Wicked Witch of the West. Meanwhile, Glinda is drawn into the Wizard’s political schemes, ultimately becoming the “Good Witch” everyone knows. The film reveals the deep bond between the two women, showing that neither is entirely good nor entirely wicked, but shaped by their choices and circumstances.
